USM Haller System Dimensions vs. Actual Dimensions - What you should know!
The Measure of All Things
Of course, not all of us are full-time experts in modular furniture, so we can't expect you to be familiar with all the technical terms. But what do you do when you want to quickly replace a scratched tube yourself in the online shop and have no more information than what a ruler provides when measuring the available tube? For us, that's reason enough to take a closer look at both technical terms!
System Measurement
The term "System Measurement" refers to the technical USM Haller size units. It is always measured from the center of one ball to the center of another ball to arrive at this measurement.
This means that, for example, a tube with a system measurement of 350 mm is not 350 mm long, but has a length of 332 mm.
| System Measurement | Actual Measurement |
|---|---|
| 100 mm | 82 mm |
| 125 mm | 107 mm |
| 150 mm | 132 mm |
| 175 mm | 157 mm |
| 200 mm | 182 mm |
| 250 mm | 232 mm |
| 275 mm | 257 mm |
| 350 mm | 332 mm |
| 395 mm | 377 mm |
| 500 mm | 482 mm |
| 750 mm | 732 mm |
Actual Measurement
The term "Actual Measurement" refers to the real/exact dimensions of the respective individual product. For an installed element, you measure the length or width of the product here.
For example, an external shelf with a system measurement of 500 × 350 mm does not have a length of 500 mm and a width of 350 mm, but as a single product has a length of 482 mm and a width of 332 mm.
Absolute Measurement
The term "Absolute Measurement" refers to the measurements taken from the outermost point of the furniture to the next outermost point for installed elements. This is the maximum extent of your existing piece of furniture.
This means that, for example, a compartment with leveling feet with a system measurement of 750 × 350 × 350 mm does not have this measurement, but rather an "Absolute Measurement" of 786 × 390 × 386 mm (width × height × depth). These measurements are important if your furniture needs to fit into an existing niche.
